every single person on this planet needs to realize that the “natural” world as we know it has been evolving with humanity, and that a lot of what we think as untouched nature has actually formed as a direct result of human inputs.

in the US, colonizers literally took over lands they had no idea how to properly support or take care of, killed off the people who did, and now we wonder why our ecological systems are falling apart.

one of the easiest places to see this is in our national forests and other reserved parks that were formed as a means of keeping indigenous people off of their lands. now that these parks have been separated from the ecological practices that indigenous people performed on them, they are degrading and the ecological systems are suffering as a result (which is made worse by climate change).

you are not separate from nature. you are part of it. it is part of your nature to participate in the world around you and help shape its form.
